Getting Ready for Company
So you’ve made the decision to sell
your home. Before you hire a REALTOR®,
it’s time to get your home ready to show to potential
buyers. Remember – you only get one chance to make a
first impression, so here are some ideas to make that a
favorable first impression.
¨
Create “Curb-Appeal” - with a well manicured
lawn and neatly trimmed shrubs to welcome buyers into
your home.
¨
Clean.Clean.Clean. - The living room, the
bathrooms, the kitchen. A sparkling house will get the
attention of potential buyers.
¨
The little things – Like checking faucets for
drips and replacing burned out bulbs or making sure your
cabinets and doors don’t stick or squeak can make a big
difference.
¨
Clear out some room. Potential buyers are looking
for more than comfortable living space. They need places
to store things – just as you do. Clean out the closets,
the basement, the attic. Pack up your unnecessary
possessions so that they can see there is room for
theirs.
¨
Remove all traces of you from your home. Remove
pictures, souveniers, knicknacks. Try to de-personalize
your home so that potential buyers can picture their
pictures, souveniers, and knickknacks in their
place.
¨
Remove - unnecessary furniture. Any room with
less furniture looks bigger.
¨
Show that you care – with your bathrooms.
Re-caulk the tubs and showers. Put out your best towels.
And don’t forget, clean,clean,clean!
¨
Let there be light – invite the sun in by opening
curtains and shades. In the evening, have plenty of
lights on inside and out to add warmth to your home.
